Landline by Rainbow Rowell.

02:35:00 0
Warning: Spoilers (duh.)

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.

Maybe that was always beside the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect to him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.
That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .
Is that what she’s supposed to do?
Or would Georgie and Neal be better off ifs  their marriage never happened?

I hated it. I absolutely hated it. I can't believe I hated a Rainbow Rowell book. I love her books, Attachments is one of my all time favourite books ever...but this book.  I hated it.

It was monotanous and dull. It was so slow, Georgie gets up calls Neil, no answer, mopes around in her own thoughts for hours and then goes to bed. Then sometimes she'll have these awkward conversations with the kids (Whom I don't care about at all) and they are clunky and awkward and not at all nice to read. Neil basically disappears apart from his past self which leads to no explanation but does tell us exactly how the book will end...so I won't waste my time.

I have felt with Rainbows books that there is room for critique but I let it off because the story is so wonderful and it doesn't matter. But this book  honestly did not care about any of it. It was D-U-L-L. Georgie doesn't seem to have a personality, I can't tell you what she's like and the relationship with her kids and husband seems pretty non-existent even though she keeps talking about how much she loves him. And honestly I thought Neil was a bit of an Asshole.

The whole thing where he dumped her cause she went to a "TV People Party" and he didn't know if he could put up with that forever but then said he could so proposed was ridiculous. It seemed kind of insane that he would pull this whole leaving her thing again, over the exact same reason. He knew what he was getting into. And I felt he was completely unsupportive, even in the flashbacks of anything Georgie wanted. She gets the dream she's been working towards for over 20 years and you have a bitch fit cause she'll miss one lousy Christmas? Then you go and start hanging out with your ex, grow up Neil. This entire book felt like 14 year olds dating, what they were doing was so immature.

I just have no energy for it. I was just screaming at Georgie and Neil throughout the entire book to stop being so ridiculous. Why doesn't he call her back? WTFH is that about? It makes no sense. The book is going for this magical realism thing and it would if characters actions matched their motivation.

I just can't even. I love Rainbow Rowell and I feel like a traitor but I honestly hated it. I was so bored and angry and I just feel exhausted from reading it.

I'm sorry Rainbow. I still love you.

July Wrap Up and August TBR

11:17:00 0
So guess who is doing a TBR 1 week into August? ME!

Guess who has neglected reading in that week? ME!

Guess who is the laziest book blogger ever right now? ME!

In true essence I quit my job (without a back up) and have spent the week sulking and not wearing pants. But the show must go on, as must the reading. I did terribly with my July TBR.

In July I only read 5 books. Although I did have terrible readers block and only 3 were actually on my TBR. My TBR Jar pick was Wonder by R.J. Palacio but I read several chapters and decided it wasn't for me.

I also read:
Take Back the Skies by Luck Saxon 2/5 Stars (Unfinishable)
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler 2/5 Stars
Four: A Divergent Story Collection by Veronica Roth 5/5 Stars (FAVOURITED)
Percy Jackson and The Battle of  the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan 4/5 Stars (FAVOURITED)
Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan 5/5 Stars (FAVOURITED)

Honestly, I was very ambitious with my TBR! So August is gonna be a little more realistic.

My TBR Jar pick for the month is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

I bought this book on a random him during a momentous book haul and I heard bad things about it so I never really picked it up, but we'll see how it goes.

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Next as I am in deep Percy Jackson hangover mode, I will be starting the Heroes of Olympus Series. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan is the first book and I'm primarily excited to get started as I know Percy shows up in the next books. Much Excitement.

Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly? Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out. Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

I will also be continuing the The Summer I Turned Pretty series with It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han and if I like it I may crack on with the next one. Its been really warm here and these books are very easy going and quick to read so they really are perfect for summer.

It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come. But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started--at Cousins Beach.

And finally as an aggressive fan of this woman I am so pumped to start Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I have zero doubts that it will be beautiful and charming and will speak to my heart and make me all fluttery on the inside. Her writing has a way of doing that.
Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble. That it’s been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.

So that is my TBR for the month.

My most anticpated books right now.

07:50:00 0
Every Word Nerd knows that feeling when you finish a book in a series and then realise you have to wait for the next one. I mean, its enough to drive anyone to fictitious insanity and the GIF's born from that are well...

So in no particular order.

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race.

I adored The 5th Wave, it was like Falling Skies but more awesome. Cassie was awesome and the cliffhanger was legendary, I feel like I have been waiting forever for this book and I can't take any more. Come on Yancey, hand over the book and everything will be fine.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love

I have already expressed my adoration for this series, it is by far my favourite and I am jump up and down, squeal at strangers and pee my pants excited for this book. Also Maas is releasing another series and I have complete faith it will be just as awesome. We aren't even halfway through the Throne of Glass series and I am deeply in love with everybody.

Winter by Marissa Meyer
This book will feature Cinder and Snow White and will take place on the moon.

This is literally all we know currently about the final book in the Lunar Chronicles series. From what we've seen of Winter it's going to be awesome.  I adore Cinder and now the Prince has joined the crew. What could go wrong?!

Having read all of Rowell's current books, I  am so excited for this new book. I have even been posting questions on the Goodreads interview with Rowell out of my excitement.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

No blurb yet for this book but this series is excellent. And that cover, that's enough to get anyone giddy.

Young Elites by Marie Lu
Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Even despite the disappointing ending to the Legend series I am so excited for Marie Lu's new series, the plot sounds awesome and she has such a wonderful visual style.

Warning: Spoilers (duh.)

Big thanks to Fiona of  http://caterfeereviews.blogspot.co.uk/ for the recommendation.

Lincoln O'Neill can't believe this is his job now- reading other people's e-mail. When he applied to be "internet security officer," he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth's and Jennifer's messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can't help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he's falling for Beth, it's way too late to introduce himself.

Having already experienced Rowell's other books, I had high hopes for her debut novel.

Up until around 100 pages I was very disappointed, it was very tedious and I hated Lincoln. He was boring and maybe that was the point, because the turn around was incredible. I continued with the book firstly out of entertainment from Beth and Jennifer's emails. They were so funny.
Beth and Jennifer have this wonderful banter, they are both classy and smart and fun and I immediately fell in love with them.  Even though I didn't "see" them until later in the book I still followed there plot line aggressively. Jennifer and Mick's baby trouble was hilarious, then tragic then joyful and that was all before I actually met them.

That's the great thing about this novel is that I felt physically in Lincolns point of view. (Sidenote: FUCK SAM! bitch.)  Then once  Lincoln fell for Beth, it was like I forgot I was reading and I fell into it's pages. The romance was enchanting and made me feel fuzzy on the inside. Lincoln handled the situation with grace and elegance and really grew into himself and that was so wonderful to read, that even before they got together she had an effect. It was a really beautiful journey to read.

Mostly I loved Beth. she was enchanting. Definitley a force of nature, but not a tornado like Chris suggested. I saw her like a ray of sunshine, breaking through the clouds on a particularly stormy day. I love that girl and I can see why Lincoln did.

Honestly this is the kind of book that makes you believe in love again. When your feeling lost or your not exactly where you want to be in life, this book pulls you from the abyss, pats you down and sends you onward with renewed hope. This book was exactly what I needed and it will stay with me long after I read that final line 'there's no air in space.'

Various thoughts:
Honestly a must read.
Blew my mind.
I haven't been this happy after a book in a longtime.
Can Lincoln be real?
